It appears that some of the wood windows have been change over the years. There are 4 over 4, 4 over 1 and 1 over 1 single hung windows. Some of the wood sills appear to be changed. The aluminum awnings on the front of the house and the aluminum porch roof on the rear are not original. The yard is relatively level. There is a private sidewalk and steps that lead to the front of the house. There is a wood stockade fence that encloses the back yards. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: This house is illustrative of a vernacular type common to Dubuque. The City Assessor records date the structure to 1880. The property is visible on the H. Wellge 1889 Perpective Map of the city. The property would be contributing to a district if one existed. The surrounding properties have been intensely modified with synthetic materials. An adjacent property dates to the late 1940's. The structure itself retains some original elements (wood soffit and fascia), however, the building has been sided with asbestos slate and it appears some of the wood windows have been modified from the original. Nothing recommends it as having individual historical significance based on its architecture. Historical Notes: Property was owned by William Gill when water service was tapped October 17, 1914.
