WHEREAS, in 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace
Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls,
as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS, on average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty
somewhere in the United States every 53 hours; and since the first
known line -of -duty death in 1791, more than 19,000 U.S. law
enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to law enforcement
officers, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the
line of duty, to include those who perished on duty in Dubuque:
Dubuque Police Department Officers Daniel Norton & Albert Meisner;
and Milwaukee Road Railroad Police Officers Henry Talcott & Jake Frith;
and
WHEREAS, while the Dubuque Police Department celebrates its 175t" Anniversary
this year, it recognizes the sacrifices made by these officers, their loved
ones and all law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty across the
United States.
NOW THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF MAY 13T" THROUGH 79T ", 2072 AS
"PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque to be affixed this 7thth day
