INTRODUCTION
The purposes of this memorandum are to provide information and recommend your
endorsement of the attached Roadway Maintenance Agreement with the Iowa
Department of Transportation (IDOT).
DISCUSSION
Street and Sewer Maintenance Supervisor John Klostermann and I met with IDOT's
District Maintenance Manager John Wilson and Area Maintenance Supervisor Dave
Shanahan on the 17th to discuss possible future road maintenance partnership
opportunities. One of the topics discussed was a previous partnership five years ago
that provided for the City's supplemental sweeping of IDOT highways and ramps in
Dubuque. John and I noted that agreement had proved beneficial to both parties and
asked Mr. Wilson if he would be interested in re- instating that partnership. He readily
concurred with John's recommendation and we agreed on fair level of compensation to
the City, which is noted in section 3.C. of the attached agreement.
This agreement will not only allow IDOT to better accommodate its recent staff
reductions, but provide for more frequent sweeping of the City's gateway roads.
ACTION STEP
recommend that you sign the agreement and return it to me. I will then forward it to
Mr. Wilson.
