Smarter Discards — Benefits to Dubuque (((SMARTER))) SUSTAINABLE SUSTAINABLE DUBUQUE DUBUQUE • There are financial savings to the city. • DMASWA has a commitment to a yearly 2% reduction in currently landfilled materials. • Caps on food scrap diversion will have ended. • Citizens have already been increasing diversion for the last 10 years with PAYT. • Increased diversion will reduce the city's carbon footprint and improve resiliency. Smarter Discards - Two Automated Data Collection Routes (((SMARTER))) SUSTAINABLE SUSTAINABLE DUBUQUE DUBUQUE Approximately 400 -600 households each, with the same refuse and recycling customers • One area is planned to target a lower income neighborhood that already has a significant number of city refuse carts. • A second area is planned to target a neighborhood with a higher recycling diversion rate that could likely both increase diversion to recycling and reduce collection costs with use of city recycling tipper carts to be collected every other week.
