Proclam - Martin Luther King JrWHEREAS,
Sunday, January 14, 2001 is the day on which our community will
celebrate the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning with a march
starting at Washington Park Gazebo at 1 p.m. and ending at St. Mark's
Community Center for the NAACP Essay Contest Awards; and
WHEREAS,
on Monday, January 15th, the Ninth Annual Martin Luther King, Jr.
Breakfast will be held at the Loras College Alumni Center with the
theme: "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off!; and
WHEREAS,
the non-violent example set by Dr. King is worthy of emulation and
commemoration by residents of this community as well as others
throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr. left to us a living legacy of justice as an
unfinished Agenda for the 21st century; and
WHEREAS, we who have been the inheritors and witnesses of this dream have a
responsibility to keep it alive for generations yet to come.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, AND MONDAY, JANUARY 15,
2001, AS DAYS OF GREAT CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING,
JR. AND URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN IN KEEPING HIS DREAM ALIVE.
