1962 May Council Proceedings ~ PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Citizens of Dubuque have been hurt, maimed or killed in auto accidents, and WHEREAS, it is known that con. certed citizen action can reduce this needless loss of life, and WHEREAS, The American Vet. erans of World War II, in National Convention in 1961, did adopt a Resolution calling for effective highway safety, and since conven- tion, all levels of their organization have carried forward a continuing program toward the following ob. jectives: 1. To encourage all states to adopt and maintain a statewide motor vehicle inspection code cOnforming with recommended national uniform standards. 2. To encourage all states to con- sider the necessity of main- taining m i n i mUm physical standards for drivers through periodic physical examinations, and 3. To encourage greater public acceptance and utilization of automobile safety belts as a life saving device, and WHEREAS, the National Com. mander of the AMVETS, Edwin P. Fifielski, did, during the week of March 26th, bring to the attention of Dubuque citizens and officials, their safety campaign and its ob- jectives. Therefore, the City Coun- cil of the City of DUbuque, Iowa, On this 7th day of May, does pro- claim its whole-hearted support of the safety objectives sought by the American Veterans of W orId War II Organization. Frudden of 1657 Dodge Street was of tbe opinion that all park. ing should not be eliminated. Tony Helling stated that be does not like the proposal submitted by the State and also made inquiry about the water problem. He thought it best to delay tbe problem for an- other year. State Senator Andrew Frommelt stated that he has been asked by property owners on Dodge Street to see wbat could be done with the Highway Com. mission relative to parking on Dodge Street. He was of the opin- ion that the idea should be ex- plored. Mr. Adolph Raska was wondering why the Dodge Street residents should be assessed at all. City Manager Chavenelle sub- mitted the following information relative to cars and parking on Dodge Street; there are eighty-six car owners on the street, outside of business; only twelve are with. out driveways.
