Narrative Description: This duplex has had an interesting evolution. It started out (c.1892-1908) as 1314-16 Washington Street, as a single story building with a rear wing. By 1909 it had gained a second story (or the map was corrected), and by 1934 it was flipped to the back of the same lot, fronting east on Elm Street, to make way for two new houses, newly addressed as 1314 and 1316 Washington Street. In its new locatin it was first addressed as 1317 Elm Street but it doesn't appear under an Elm Street listing in directories. Fenestration is symetrical and the front entrances are centered on the facade. The core measures 20 feet in width and 27 feet in depth (a centered porch is 13 feet wide and five feet deep is gone, replaced by a stoop of the same size). The rear wing, a single-storied gable roof extension, is 13 feet deep and 29 feet wide. There are no side porches or other elaborations. A single-story gable front garage is to the southwest of the house along the south lot line and the 1975 garage is to the north.
