7. Narrative Description:
This two-story frame side-gabled duplex fronts southeast onto East 22nd Street, just east of its
intersection with Elm Street. Historically there was a combination commercial/residential property to
the immediate west of this property. The façade features a centered gable roof dormer that interrupts
the southern eavesline. Fenestration is symmetrical on the façade, with the two innermost upper level
windows being more closely partnered and aligned vertically with the twin entrances below. On each
side of the centered twin entry doors, are paired window sets. A simple hip-roofed entry porch is
supported by cast iron columns and there is a concrete stoop. Twin attic dormer window lights are
ornamented with a triangular pediment "hood" and window set surround. The entrances have
rectangular transoms set above each door.
The rectangular core measures 32 feet in width by 40 feet in depth (1,280 square feet per floor). The
centered front porch measures 11 feet in width by five feet in depth. The west half (503) has a single-
story brick rear addition (six feet wide by seven feet deep) and a corner porch or addition on the
northwest corner (same dimensions reversed). The east half (505) has two rectangular additions. The
southernmost measures 16 feet in width and 12 feet in depth, while the northern porch unit has the
same width and a depth of six feet.
503 had a single-car garage, 9 feet by 16 feet, as of the 1970s.
