7. Narrative Description:
This is a story-and-a-half frame gable front residence (16.6x42.6, 701 square feet per level).
There is a stone foundation and the exerior is clad with composition shingles. There is an enclosed
full-width hip roof front porch. The garage (13x18) dates to 1920. There is a full basement. The
cottage is clad with faux asphalt siding brick. The shed roof north dormer is likely an alteration.

8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
The Assessor dates this building to +/- 1880. The house was present as of 1891. The 1889
Perspective Map of the City of Dubuque shows no houses on this part of Kniest, implying rapid building
up between 1889 and 1891. This cottage was owner occupied through most of its history.
