INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to request the opportunity for Mitzi Yordy, Manager
of the Grand River Center, to make a presentation to the City Council for the 2014
Annual Report and updates of activities in the current fiscal year and plans for the
future.
BACKGROUND
Platinum Hospitality was hired as the private management company for the Grand River
Center in 2003. In 2013, a new contract was approved with a requirement for an annual
report to the City Council. Mitzi Yordy, Manager, would like to present activities in the
current fiscal year, as well as plans for the future.
The Grand River Center has become an integral part of the community since opening.
The Conference and Education Center has been very successful by hosting local
events and activities, as well as bringing conventions and building Dubuque's tourism
industry.
ACTION STEP
I request time on the Council agenda for Mitzi to share the Annual Report.

Activity Statement
• Maximize the benefit to the tourism industry through the operations
of the Grand River Center and ensure a positive experience for
attendees with a well maintained, professionally managed conference
center. Provide a venue for regional conferences, business meetings,
local events and social activities in an iconic facility.
• Goals
Visitors to our community will see the beauty of the River and
experience excellent customer service in a well maintained facility
and as a result will return on future trips.
Grand River Center is an icon for the Port of Dubuque
developments. Maintaining the interior and exterior to the highest
level is a priority for our residents and visitors.
Create memories at events and activities held at the Grand River
Center.

The promotional strategy of the Grand River Center evolves around the organizational
philosophy of cooperative efforts with the CVB, hotels and area attractions to leverage
destination messaging.
Advertising in regional publications such as Midwest Meetings magazine targets the meeting
planners within a 300 mile radius.
Public Relations articles referencing the Grand River Center in professional targeted
publications provide quality exposure to the meeting destination at the Port of Dubuque.

Center has created a "green" meeting package to offer

January 2013 Grand River center installed paper towel auto dispensers in all
of the restrooms and service areas with the ability to control the amount of
paper dispensed.
In house study conducted resulted in average usage savings of paper was
approximately 6 inches of paper per guest.
305329 guests (2 yrs) x 6 inches= 1,831,974 inches
+ 12= 152664 feet

X481 square feet per roll = 632,996 square feet
