Present: Joyce Connors, Bob Felderman, Jeffrey Jochum, Dick Landis, Phyllis Lee, Betty Phillips,

Excused: Kevin Lynch, Sheila Castaneda, Richard Van Iten, Annalee Ward, Patrick McNamara
1 . Approval of Minutes from the May 28, 2014 meeting and September 24, 2014 goal setting
session: Motion by Felderman. Second by Phillips. Motion carried 7-0.
2. Schedule Standing Meetings: Meetings to be held on the third Wednesday of every odd month
in the year at 4:00 p.m. Motion by Phillips. Seconded by Felderman. Motion carried 7-0.
3. Election of Officers: To retain the officers as they stand, Landis as Chair and Lynch as Vice
Chair for the 2015 calendar year. Motion by Phillips. Seconded by Thum. Motion carried 7-0.
4. Dornbirn, Austria, Commissioner Landis updated commission regarding a new/updated
Dornbirn website. The City of Dubuque is listed on this website with a very nice write-up
pertaining to its sister city relationship with Dornbirn. Landis also spoke regarding a newspaper
of 40 pages that is put out by Dornbirn City Hall. He encouraged commissioners to check out
both publications. Discussion was had regarding creating an Arts/Music delegation exchange
as a possibility in the coming years.
5. Handan, China: Commissioner Landis reported the photo exhibit is going well. Discussion was
had regarding possible locations to display photo exhibit after grant schedule is over. College
campuses, Heritage Center and Fall into Art Gallery on Main Street were discussed as options.
6. Pyatigorsk, Russia: Commissioner Jochum reported that he will be working to revive this Sister
City relationship after a lull in participation by Pyatigorsk over the last few years.
7. Pen Pal Student Exchanges: Commissioner Thum reported that the Pen Pal program is on
hold per the request of the teachers from Dornbirn, Austria, stating that their current year
students are a little unruly to take on a project at this time. The Dornbirn exchange will begin
again next year.
8. Library Archive and Display: Commissioner Phillips reported that the Friendship Force
Organization has dissolved its membership. This allows the Sister City Commission to utilize
the display case at the Library anytime. Discussion was had regarding placing a holiday
display of greeting cards and celebration artifacts in the display case after November 27th
9. Commission Items: Season Greetings correspondence will be sent by; Felderman to Dornbirn,
Landis to Handan and Jochum to Pyatigorsk.
10. Next Meeting: January 21 , 2015
11. Adjournment: Motion by Felderman to adjourn at 5:12 p.m. Seconded by Connors. Motion
carried 7-0.
