The Honorable Terrance M. Duggan
Office of the Mayor - City Hall
50 West 13a Street
Dubuque, IA 52001-4864
Dear Mayor Duggan:
Thank you for your January 5 letter to Transportation Commission Chair
Dan Wiedemeier concerning hospital signing on U.S. 20 in Dubuque.
The purpose of th0 existing hospital signing is to direct motorists, who are unfamiliar
with the city, in locat'mg emergency medical treatment at ihe nearest hospital that offers
24-hour-a-day service. The signs currently in place along U.S. 20 accomplish this by
guiding eastbound traffic off U.S. 20 at the Grandview Avenue interchange and
westbound traffic off at the Hill-B~yant interchange.
We would be happy to meet with the city and ambulance and hospkal off~cials to discuss
possible alternatives to address the confusion that you identify. By copy of this letter, I
will ask Dick Kautz, District 6 Engineer, to contact you to arrange a meeting and
explore alternatives to address the situation.
MYW:et
Sincerely,
Mark F. Wandro
