SUBJECT: Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant Program
DATE: April 15, 2015
In 2013 the City Council approved the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant program.
The grants are available to any residents, non-profits or businesses who propose a
project that addresses at least one of the twelve sustainability principles and includes an
element of community engagement or education in their project.
Twelve applications were received this quarter.
Sustainable Community Coordinator Cori Burbach and the Application Review
Committee recommend funding the following grant applications:

Franciscan Sisters Clare's Garden, a new community garden $1,000
engaging low-income and North End
families
Kneaded Health &Wellness Youth Organized Kids Yoga, a program to $500
provide yoga/wellness programming to

Trailhead Energy Energize Dubuque! A community energy $21000
efficiency and renewable energy education
campaign
Multicultural Family Center Spice Nights $550
Dubuque County ISU Agriculture Urbanism Toolkit $11000
Extension/Dubuque Food Co-

Dubuque Bike Coop Installation of bike racks, partnering with $11500
local businesses and Engineering
Department
Four Mounds Smart thermostats $500
East Mill Bakery Weeknight Farmers Market $500
Total recommended funding is $7,950, leaving $164 in this fund, which is not
anticipated to be spent in this fiscal year.

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to recommend to the City Council projects for funding from
the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant program.
BACKGROUND
In 2013, the City Council approved the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant program
to catalyze community leaders in the Sustainable Dubuque initiative. The grants are
available to any residents, non-profits or businesses who propose a project that
addresses at least one of the twelve sustainability principles and includes an element of
community engagement or education in their project.
DISCUSSION
A citizen committee met to review the twelve applications submitted in this quarter. The
following are recommended for funding:

REQUESTED ACTION
I respectfully request City Council approval of the recommended funding for the
Sustainable Dubuque Community Grants detailed above.
