City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends award of the construction contract to the low bidder, Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Inc., in the amount of $207,725, which is 9.39% under the estimate of probable construction cost of$229,251, after three addendums were issued. Van Milligen, City Manager 1 FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer SUBJECT: Award of Lowell Street (Abbott to Woodworth) Water Main, Sanitary & Storm Sewer Improvements Project 2015 DATE: 23 June 2015 INTRODUCTION The enclosed resolution authorizes the award of the utility improvements contract for the Lowell Street (Abbott to Woodworth) Water Main, Sanitary & Storm Sewer Improvements Project 2015. DISCUSSION The improvements proposed included the replacement of approximately 400 LF of 6-inch diameter sanitary sewer between Abbott and Woodworth Streets, approximately 515 LF of 6-inch diameter water main, and approximately 140 LF of 15-inch diameter storm sewer, along with ancillary street pavement and ADA curb ramp replacements. The sanitary will be upgraded to 8" diameter piping. The City Council approved the plans, specifications, form of contract and the estimated cost following the public hearing held on June 15, 2015, via Resolution No.213-15. BID RESULTS Sealed bids were received on June 18, 2015. Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa, submitted the low bid in the amount of $207,725.00. The bid is 9.39% under the estimate of probable construction cost which was estimated at $229,251.00 after three addendums were issued. RECOMMENDATION I respectfully request that the contract for the Lowell Street (Abbott to Woodworth) Water Main, Sanitary & Storm Sewer Improvements Project 2015 be awarded to Drew Cook & Sons Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa in the amount of$207,725.00. Whereas, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 5th day of June, 2015, and it has been determined that Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co. Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa, with a bid in the amount of $207,725.00, is the lowest responsive, responsible bidder for the Project. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: That a Public Improvement Contract for the Project is hereby awarded to Drew Cook & Sons Excavating Co., Inc. and the City Manager is hereby directed to execute a Public Improvement Contract on behalf of the City of Dubuque for the Project.
