Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Additional Part Time Hours DATE: June 30, 2015 The current Emergency Communications Center schedule has 42 hours per week where the Communications Center is staffed with two Public Safety Dispatchers. The FY16 Budget allows for the addition of one full time position on January 1, 2016, which will allow for three people on staff almost 24 hours /7 days a week. The Center will still have two hours per week where there is only two staff members working. Emergency Communications Manager Mark Murphy recommends City Council approval to increase the number of part-time hours from 43 to 45 hours per week effective January 1, 2016, which will allow for the Center to be staffed with three Dispatchers at all hours, excluding sick time. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval. Mic ael C. Van Milligen City Manager FR: Mark Murphy Emergency Communications Manager RE: Additional Part Time Hours INTRODUCTION: This memo is to address staffing in the Communications Center starting January 1St, 2016. BACKGROUND: The current schedule has 42 hours per week where the Communications Center is staffed with two Public Safety Dispatchers. The FY16 Budget allows for us to add an additional full time position on January 1St, 2016. This will allow us to have three people on staff almost 24 hours/7 days a week. The Center will still have two hours per week where there is only two staff members working. CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION: I would like to increase the number of part time hours per week from the 43 that we currently have to 45 hours in order to staff with three dispatchers around the clock. This will add an additional 104 hours to the part timers for the entire year. These hours would still be shared by six part time dispatchers. This will allow the Center to be staffed with three Dispatchers at all hours excluding sick time. This increase in part time hours would cost approximately $3290.00. This includes pay, IPERs and Social Security. This would be off set a little because it would decrease full time dispatchers 2 hours off per week in comp or vacation time request. ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the increase of part time hours from 43 to 45 hours per week starting on January 1 st, 2016.
