Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meering ofMay 28, 2015
Present: Mike Willis, President; Dan Boice, Secretary, and Trustees, Angela
Allred, Paula Connors, Patty Poggemiller, Jon Trotter and Jenny Weiss
• Selser-Schaefer Architects has been hired to review the Library's
space and identify options to create a permanent Media Lab, or "Maker
Space." The grant that originally funded the portable digital media lab
for outreach to teens was planned for two years. We want to continue
this outreach but also open this technology to the general public to
maximize opportunities for use. It is wasteful for this equipment to be
stored in a closet only to come out for three programs a month. The
equipment that we now have, which can be offered to the public, when
space is identified includes:
0 11 iPads
0 6 MacBook Pros
0 3 High-quality Microphones
0 4 3D Printers
0 1 3D Scanner
0 1 Apple TV
0 1 VHS to DVD convertor
0 1 slide and film to DVD convertor
• Includes 8mm and Super 8mm film, 135 mm slides, 126
and 127 negatives and slides, 110 negatives and slides
0 1 3D Printer that prints metal and wood objects (on order)
• Work to repair the book drops located on Bluff Street began on May
19. The original book drop, that delivers books inside the library
through an underground chute, needed to be replaced because of
water causing damage to materials.
• The flooring to the Children's Department that was installed to replace
the original damaged flooring was defective. A new floor is being
installed and should be completed the week of June 1 .
• The transition to RFID by Tech Logic has begun and the last phase
(security gates) is scheduled for installation during the first week of
June.
• Hirschl & Adler Galleries in New York has appraised the Martin
Johnson Heade painting that has been for sale or in storage for the
past six years with a different gallery. The Hirschl & Adler
representative believed that the value of the painting is around
$200,000. The Library Board voted to move the painting to Hirschl &
Adler for sale as the original dealer felt the painting's value had
reduced to a maximum of$90,000.
• A Code of Ethical Conduct has been added to the Personnel
Handbook, which mirrors the City's Code of Ethical Conduct
Statement. When the Personnel Handbook is reprinted all library
employees will receive an updated handbook and will have a new
statement to sign when it has been read.
• The Library Board discussed options in support of marketing but no
action was taken.
