Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting ofSeptember 24, 2015
Present: Jenny Weiss President; Angela Allred, Secretary; Paula Connors, Pat
Maddux, and Jon Trotter
Excused: Patty Poggemiller and Mike Willis
• The end of August marks 17% of the fiscal year passing.
Expenditures were at 15% and revenue collected is at 10% of
projections.
• Checkouts in August were down 1% compared to August of last
year. Checkouts of children's books increased 5% in August. A
new service called "book bundles," which are themed children's
books tied together has been launched. Families have taken to this
idea and continue to look for new themes.
• The check-out of downloadable materials is up 32 percent year-to-
date.
• Total card holders are up 9% compared to last year, which
translates to 73% of the population of Dubuque.
• McCullough Creative has begun work in the first phase of the
marketing campaign and submitted a creative brief.
• The Board reviewed the proposed changes to the city ordinance
and directed Henricks to contact the City Attorney's office to
request a few modifications.
• Architects from Selser-Schaefer presented two options for a
potential maker space in the library. One option would be on the
first floor in front of the windows where the large print collection is
currently housed. The other location would be on second floor
where the Internet computers are. The public computers would be
relocated to where the short stacks of new non-fiction are near the
elevator. The Board selected the second location for development
of cost.
