3 17 08 Dbq County Conservation Proclamation
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in 1933 a group of Dubuque’s leading citizens organized the
Dubuque County Conservation Society with a principal purpose of
protecting the only large stand of White Pine in Iowa near
Luxemburg. Their dedication and efforts were successful as
evidenced by the establishment of White Pine Hollow State Forest
and Preserve; and
WHEREASover the last 75 years, the Society has been involved in numerous
,
conservation and environmental projects including Swiss Valley
Park, the Leo Mclaughlin Habitat Area, contributing to the White
Water Canyon land acquisition, Camp Klaus and expansion, and the
protection of the Mississippi River; and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque County Conservation Society, which is one of the
oldest, active conservation and environmental organizations in the
th
upper Midwest, will celebrate its 75 anniversary on April 5, 2008,
with a public reception at the Swiss Valley Nature Center
.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF APRIL 1-5, 2008, AS
“DUBUQUE COUNTY CONSERVATION SOCIETY WEEK”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 17th day of March,
