Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Dubuque:
I am writing regarciing the proposal by Sara Kahle and James Baranski
seeking a special exemption in order to build a 6-unit condominium at
440 Raymond Place in Dubuque, which will be before the Zoning Board of
Adjustment this Thursday, March 27. I live in this neighborhood, and
only recently became aware of this issue; I have sent an a-mail message
to the Planning Department to share with the Zoning Board of Adjustment
members at the meeting since I will be out of town due to a work
commitment this Thursday afternoon.
Because the property in question is located on blufftand, I strongly
urge the members of the Zoning Board of Adjustment to wait for the
Bluffland Advisory Committee to complete the proposal that the committee
members are currently writing. As you know, we have long needed
guidelines for the use and development of the bluffs, and I believe it
would be ill-advised to make a decision regarding this until the city
council has had a chance to determine what policy or policies will be in
effect.
