Dear Congressman Braley,
THE CITY OF
DUB E
~~~~
On behalf of the citizens of Dubuque and my colleagues on the Dubuque City Council, I
would like to thank you for the tremendous work you do for our community.
We are very grateful for the demonstrated support you provided this past year for
Dubuque. Legislation, appropriations and advocacy with Federal agencies are all
tangible signs of your efforts on our behalf.
The funds you secured for the private colleges in Dubuque will enable them to continue
their educational leadership in the areas of nursing education and community literacy.
The funding for the rehabilitation of Lock and Dam 11 is essential to the navigation
industry that touches our river town and contributes to our growing economy.
Your support for the lead paint mitigation effort in Dubuque has proven to be very
effective use of federal program dollars with a very high rate of success. Without
federal support this year -Dubuque's highly successful program would have ended.
The Port of Dubuque will sport new boat docks as a result of the Boating Infrastructure
grant from the Department of Interior. This recreational amenity will attract boaters from
up and down the Mississippi who in turn provide tourism dollars to the local and State
coffers. The boat docks also provide an additional attraction at the site of America's
River project.
Congressman, we would be remiss if we did not mention your excellent staff who are
also great advocates for our community. Mike Goodman, Pete DeKock ,Todd Wolf,
Sara Benzing and John Murphy are assets to the Bruce Braley team and great friends
of Dubuque.
