Grassley, Charles_Thank You Letter from Mayor BuolOffice of the Mayor City Hall 50 West 13th Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001-4864 www.cityofdubuque.org March 18, 2008 The Honorable Charles Grassley United States Senate 135 Hart Office Building Washington, DC 20510-1501 Dear Senator Grassley, THE CITY OF DUB E On behalf of the citizens of Dubuque and my colleagues on the Dubuque City Council, would like to thank you for the tremendous work you do for our community. We are very grateful for the demonstrated support you provided this past year for Dubuque. Legislation, appropriations and advocacy with Federal agencies are all tangible signs of your efforts on our behalf. The funds you secured for the private colleges in Dubuque will enable them to continue their educational leadership in the areas of nursing education and community literacy. The funding for the rehabilitation of Lock and Dam 11 is essential to the navigation industry that touches our river town and contributes to our growing economy. Very significant to all of us was securing the federal designation for the Crescent Community Health Center. This designation and the annual federal funding that accompany it are absolutely essential for many of our citizens who would not otherwise be able to afford health care. The lead paint mitigation effort in Dubuque has proven to be very effective use of federal program dollars with a very high rate of success. Without funding support -this program would have ended. Thank you for your work on this important program for Dubuque. The Port of Dubuque will sport new boat docks as a result of the Boating Infrastructure grant from the Department of Interior. This recreational amenity will attract boaters from up and down the Mississippi who in turn provide tourism dollars to the local and State coffers. The boat docks also provide an additional attraction at the site of America's River project. Senator, we would be remiss if we did not mention your superior staff who are also great advocates for our community.
