PR~CLAMATdON
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001 the United States experienced tragic and
traumatic acts of terrorism which will never be forgotten; and
WHEREAS, after the shocking events of that day, many young men and women
enlisted in the military to actively do something to thwart further
efforts of terrorism. Michael J. Deutsch, the son of Wayne and Ilene
Deutsch, of 2125 Stafford, Dubuque, IA was a young man who
"chose to join the Army and did what he did so others wouldn't have
to...;" and
WHEREAS, Private Michael Deutsch, a 2000 graduate of Dubuque Senior High
School and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was
assigned to the 1St Squadron, 1St Armored Cavalry Regiment,
Armstrong Barracks, Germany; and
WHEREAS, on July 31St, 2003, during action in the armed conflict in Iraq, Private
Michael Deutsch was killed while ~ riding in an armored personnel
carrier that was hit by an explosive round; and
WHEREAS, Army Private Michael J. Deutsch, age 21, made the ultimate sacrifice
and gave his life for his country.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY STAFF AND
CITIZENS OF OUR GREAT COMMUNITY, DO OFFER SINCERE CONDOLENCES
TO PRIVATE DEUTSCH'S PARENTS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THIS
SORROWFUL TIME. THOUGH PRIVATE MICHAEL DEUTSCH'S TIME ON THIS
EARTH WAS BRIEF, THE LASTING LEGACY OF HIS BELIEFS AND ACTIONS WILL
BE A POSITIVE FORCE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVERMORE. WE STAND IN AWE
OF HIS GREAT SACRIFICE.
