Proclamation_Operation We Care July 2008 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, “Operation We Care” is an initiative of the Tri-state service organizations, but spearheaded by Chapter 6 of the Disabled American Veterans in Dubuque with its mission to assist veterans and their families in time of need; and WHEREAS, “Operation We Care” is an ongoing project specifically designed to address the needs of Tri-State veterans and their families that are currently being overlooked, or unfunded or when other funding sources, assistance, and charities are unavailable; and WHEREAS, specific needs can vary depending on individual circumstances. Each request for assistance is handled discreetly to ensure the request meets the criteria of a true need and is not covered by another source of funding. Representatives from the Disabled American Veterans oversee “Operation We Care,”; and WHEREAS, examples of unfunded needs currently being covered by “Operation We Care” include residence access ramps; helping with transportation costs to local and regional VA medical facilities; paying pharmacy, rent, and utility bills; and providing wheelchairs, walkers, clothing, food and blankets to veterans in need. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JULY, 2008, AS “OPERATION WE CARE MONTH” IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AN URGE ALL CITIZENS TO ANSWER THE NEEDS OF VETERANS DURING THIS MONTH-LONG EVENT AND EVERY MONTH. IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be affixed this 16th day of June, 2008. ________________________________ Roy D.
