Library Board Council Update #56 Carnegie-Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting of June 24, 2008 Present: President; Diann Guns, Secretary, Kristen Smith; Paula Connors, Beverly Kolz, and Elizabeth Leeper. Excused: Becky Hauder and Michael Shubatt ? May marked 92% of the fiscal year passing with expenditures at 90%. Revenue generation was at 117% of projections. ? Over 2,100 children and 240 teens have signed up for the summer reading th program. June 9 was the first day of the summer reading program sign up and total visitors to the library on that day was 2,004. ? Circulations in May were up 3% and reference questions continued to grow; up 12%. Downloadable video and audio formats are showing slow growth. ? Susan Henricks met with Christine Schiesel, who is the Director of Operations at McGraw Hill’s Dubuque Distribution Center located on Chavenelle Road. Christine offered to donate space in the McGraw Hill warehouse for library material that will need to be stored during the renovation as well as pallets and the option to purchase boxes at their cost. ? A meeting was held with the Finance Department and the City’s insurance company, Friedman Insurance. A review of all art and antiques was completed to confirm adequate coverage as well as insurance on the part of the collection that will be in storage. ? 173 applications were received for the position of custodian and a decision should th be made during the week of June 30. Advertising is taking place for library clerks and the Youth Services Manager. The Youth Services Manager job listing th will be active until July 10. ? A possible contract for library services with the Dubuque County Library under the Envision recommendation for west side service was tabled pending a decision by the Dubuque County Library Board of Trustees to further evaluate the proposal. ? The Library Board of Trustees received an offer to purchase the Curtis collection from the Amon Carter Museum in Ft. Worth, TX for $1.1 million. The Board th will vote on this at their July 24 meeting.
