Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Placement of Helicopter at Veterans' Memorial Plaza DATE: August 12, 2008 Dubuque ml-An~dcaC~y 2007 Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence is recommending approval of the placement of a helicopter at the Veterans' Memorial Plaza to be constructed at the McAleece Park and Recreation Complex. The City Council approved the construction of a Veterans' Memorial Plaza at the McAleece Park and Recreation Complex in May, 2007. The group is asking to add a Cobra Helicopter display to the project. Attached is a site plan that shows the plaza and the proposed location of the helicopter. There will be no cost to the City to acquire, transport, or place the helicopter. It will be placed on a pedestal high enough off the ground so that it cannot be vandalized. The helicopter will remain the property of the federal government and will revert back to them when it is removed. The City of Dubuque is being asked to assume all responsibility for the upkeep and safety of the helicopter. concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval.
