MINUTES It was moved by Harjehausen, seconded by Hoffmann, to approve the
APPROVED; minutes of the July 8, 2008 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

UPDATE ON Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas updated commissioners:
C.I.P.
PROJECTS: • base of Town Clock is being painted now; two sides of the clock face are
already done and this phase of the overall project should be completed by
end of August. • Veterans' Memorial Park rest room project was awarded
to Klauer Construction; work should start next week. The current building will
be torn down to the wood frame and new siding put on and new plumbing
fixtures installed. • American Ramp Company has been working at the
Skate Park at McAleece for two weeks replacing the skating surface with
steel. • Rest rooms at the Children's Zoo have been renovated and now
meet ADA requirements.
PARK DIVISION In the absence of Park Division Manager Bob Fritsch, Mr. Prevenas informed
REPORT: commissioners:
• Jeff Ahlers was hired as the Assistant Gardener -new position. He will be
working in a lot of the high maintenance areas such as the Port of Dubuque
and gateways. He was working at the Dubuque Community School District
and was a former park division employee during his college years. • Miller
Riverview Park is now 100% operational after the flood cleanup and repair.
• Renovation work will start soon on the rest rooms by the Enclosed Shelter
at Murphy Park.
RECREATION Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas updated commissioners:
DIVISION
REPORT: • Swim attendance was up for July, 6% over an average July but the
season is behind overall because it has not been a good June or August.
Golf rounds had the best July in four years, up 3% from last year.
Playground program ended August 1st, with 8,700 participants; had free
lunch program at Comiskey, Lincoln and Prescott playgrounds -- 2,300 total
meals were served throughout the eight-week playground program.

• Sutton Pool's last day of the season was Sunday, August 10th; doggie dip
was held August 11th with 160 dogs admitted to the pool. Flora Pool season
ends Sunday, August 24th with the doggie dip on Monday, August 25th.
Triathlon had perfect weather, 90 participants. • Fall brochure will be
available and program registration begins on August 25th.
