Library Board of~Trztstees Update
From the Meeting of
Az~gz.rst 28, 2008
Present: President; Diann Guns, Secretary, Kristen Smith; Paula Connors, David
Hammer, Beverly Kolz and Elizabeth Leeper
• Trustee Becky Hauder has resigned due to her health. The Mayor will appoint a
new board member on October 6.
• The first month of FY2009, July, marks the passage of 8 percent of the new fiscal
year with 8 percent of the budget expended and 7.44 percent of projected
revenues received.
• July represents anall-time record for items checked out. Since FY1996 this is a
39 percent increase. One reason this is a very interesting and significant statistic
is because FY1996 was the first year the Library began providing Internet access
to the public. While providing public Internet access remains a very much in-
demand service a 39 percent increase in items checked out during this same
period of time demonstrates more clearly than anything else that the Library
remains relevant in Dubuque and meets the needs of its citizens. People also
checked out more print material in July than we have seen recently with Adult
material up 6 percent, and Children's up 8 percent. Database use was up as well.
• Danielle Day has accepted our offer will begin her position as Youth Services
Manager on Monday, September 22.
• The Board approved changes in three policies: Unaccompanied Children,
Fines/Fees and Patron Behavior.
• The Board approved the holiday closings for FY 2009 with discretion as to which
day to close for the 4th of July left up to the Director.
