Re: Homecoming fireworks display
Greetings,
The University of Dubuque is applying for a fireworks permit for its annual homecoming
celebration on Saturday, October 17, 2008. The display, if approved, would be dischazged at
approximately 9:15 pm. This display will be smaller than the display that we aze scheduled to be
having on Sept. 6~'. We anticipate this display to last approximately 15 minutes.
The display will be fired from our property on the baseball field. It will be aimed towazds the
Southwest, over our soccer and practice football fields. The viewing audience is expected to
number 1000. They will be sitting in the newly constructed football stadium stands at Chalmers
Field.
The Dubuque Fire Department has been contacted and has reviewed a plat of the campus. They
have advised us that we aze restricted to using no lazger than a 4 inch shell due to the required
safety, fallout, and exclusion zone being limited to a 400 foot circumference around the launch
site. University of Dubuque security staff (with access to fire extinguishers) will be stationed at
various locations on the perimeter to maintain the integrity of the safety zone.
The contact person for "J & M Displays" concurs with the NFPA exclusion zone. The display
"shooter" will be Scott and he is available at 563-419-4803. His license material will be
provided to the fire Marshal's Office prior to the event.
After the fireworks, University Security officers will assist with crowd and traffic control until
the crowd has disbursed.
No alcohol will be served or allowed before or during this event.
