Wieland Ltr - Comiskey Pk Pavil41t 9~02
To Whom This May Concern:
My husband and I are writing as t~x paying residents and neighbors living in the north
end of Dubuque, to address the rental policy of the new pavilion at Comiskey Park. I
called down to the Parks and Recreation Department to inquire about who may rent out
the new pavilion once it opens in June. The answer received was that only classes and
the North End Neighborhood Association meetings would be allowed to use the new
building. The pavilion should benefit the neighborhood and community. I was told on
the phone that no family reunion functions, family parties, non-profit group activities, or
community organization functions could rent the use of the new pavilion at Comiskey.
We feel this policy is unfair to the pubic and to us as neighbors in the community living
near the park, if not able to use the facility to benefit the community. We will be denied
to use the new facility in a park' where we take our two children to play. The park is an
ideal location for many residents. We are unsatisfied with the Park and Recreation's
answer at this time in regards to the rental of the Comiskey Park Community Center.
Why call the center a "Community Center" if the community cannot use the facility.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our views and concerns on this matter.
