BACKGROUND The Catfish Creek Interceptor Sewer Repair Project replaced approximately 287 feet of 18 inch and 24 inch diameter sanitary sewer located in the vicinity of Old Mill Road and Rockdale Road. The pipe was replaced with 30 inch diameter PVC encased in concrete where it crosses the creek. The project also included the replacement of two manholes directly upstream and downstream of the pipe replacement along with repairs to several other manholes along the Catfish Creek Interceptor Sewer line. The attached location map shows the section of pipe replaced crossing Catfish Creek, north of the Rockdale Road Bridge. DISCUSSION The Catfish Creek Interceptor Sewer Repair Project was completed by Top Grade Excavating, Inc., of Farley, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $190,588.76 which is an 19.86% increase from the original contract amount of $159,000.00. The increase was due to streambank stabilization to three manholes and seeding of disturbed areas. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and authorize the payment of the contract amount of $190,588.76 to Top Grade Excavating, Inc., for the Catfish Creek Interceptor Sewer Repair Project. (Contractor), the City Engineer has examined the work and recommends that the Project be accepted; and WHEREAS, the final contract amount for the Project is $190,588.76; WHEREAS, the Contractor has previously been paid $181,059.32, leaving a balance of $9,529.44; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the recommendation of the City Engineer should be accepted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. The recommendation of the City Engineer is approved and the Project is hereby accepted. Section 2. The Finance Director is hereby directed to pay to the Contractor the balance of the retainage of $9,529.44 as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573 or Iowa Code chapter 26.13.
