WHEREAS, the Irish heritage of the Dubuque area is an important part of the
community's character and identity; and
WHEREAS, a celebration of St. Patrick's Day on March 11, 2017 by the Ancient
Order of Hibernians (AOH) Dubuque Division #2 (re-founded in 2013)
is a cultural entity sponsored by AOH #2 and the Knights of
Columbus Dubuque #510; and
WHEREAS, Irish-Americans have made an indelible mark on the history of
Dubuque, and Irish-Americans should be proud of the deep cultural,
historical, and familial ties that have contributed to the strength of
our vibrant relationship with Ireland for more than one hundred
years.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. O'BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MARCH 2017, AS
"IRISH—AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON THE PEOPLE OF THE
DUBUQUE AREA TO SUPPORT THIS EVENT.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
