Proclamation - Legal Services
WHEREAS the founding principles of American democracy envision an orderly
society governed by rule of law; and
WHEREAS the promise of our nation of “Equal Justice Under Law” is carved
into marble above the steps of the United Nations Supreme Court;
and
WHEREAS the right to access to our Nation’s system of justice must be
considered a basic right to sustain the credibility and support of all
of our people under our Nation’s governance; and
WHEREAS the City of Dubuque has been a long and active participant in
supporting the Legal Services Corporation of Iowa and the concept
of equal access to justice; and
WHEREAS the Northeast Regional Office of the Legal Services Corporation of
Iowa has been a part of the community of Dubuque and Northeastern
Iowa, providing civil legal assistance to tens of thousands of low-
income citizens for twenty-five years.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MAY 2002 AS:
“LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION OF IOWA MONTH”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANT
CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION OF IOWA OVER
THE PAST TWENTY-FIVE YEARS IN STRIVING TO BRING EQUAL ACCESS TO
JUSTICE TO THE LOW-INCOME CITIZENS OF IOWA.
