WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque is a progressive and inclusive community, which celebrates culture
and heritage and supports efforts to ensure everyone has the right to live in conditions
of dignity, respect, and peace; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque strives to offer our citizens a safe community and to put an end to
taunting, bullying, and intolerance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque recognizes transgender women of color are murdered at a higher
rate and is a community which strives to be safe for all of its members; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque advocates for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and
displays a commitment to the equal treatment of all people. We recognize the need for
intersectionality as we work toward social justice as we understand there is no equality
until there is equality for ALL; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque understands the importance for LGBTQ+ people to have access to
excellent health care in LGBTQ+-affirmative environments, the necessity to have the
legal and institutional freedom to pursue their own lives as they wish, and the need to
have their freedom and desire affirmed by the rest of the world; and
WHEREAS, this proclamation in and of itself sends a positive message of validation to LGBTQ+
citizens of Dubuque that the City embraces these individuals and their families as a part
of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AMP DUBUQUE, AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF JUNE 2017 AS
LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH
IN DUBUQUE AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO OBSERVE THIS MONTH WITH
APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND CEREMONIES IN RECOGNITION OF OUR
CITY'S DIVERSITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this Soh day of June, 2017.
