Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer PILL DATE: May 31, 2017 SUBJECT: Hwy 20 Conduit—Wacker Drive to Hill Street The Hwy 20 Conduit—Wacker Drive to Hill Street Project will provide for the repair of conduit system between Wacker and Devon along Hwy 20. Currently the fiber system goes through small handholes in-between the intersections and at the intersections the fiber and electrical run through the same handholes. This project calls for the removal of 10 smaller handholes which in the past have been hit by snow plows and have damaged the fiber with in the vault. At the intersection, the contractor will reroute the fiber from electrical handholes and in some instances, install new 4' by 4' vaults. Once all the conduit and vaults are updated to latest standards another project will be advertised to jet fiber through the conduit and terminate it at the intersections. The following is a summary of bids received for the Hwy 20 Conduit—Wacker Drive to Hill Street Project: Contractor Base Bid Volkens Inc. $53,250.00 Communication Innovators $59,600.00 McDermott Excavating $67,350.00 Through the competitive quotation process for public improvements, this project was awarded on May 30, 2017 to Volkins Inc of Dyersville, Iowa, in the base bid amount of$53,250.
