Government Body: CITY OF DUBUQUE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

Place of Meeting: City Hall, Conference Room A, 50 W 13th St.
Present: Commissioners Dan White and Mary Lynn Neuhaus
Also present: Randy Peck, Rick Steines, Mark Dalsing, John Foster
1. Approval of minutes from the May 3, 2017 meeting. Motion by Neuhaus to approve as submitted.
Second by White. Motion carried 2-0.
2. Schedule an entrance examination for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Motion by White to
set the application deadline for July 19, 2017 at 5 p.m. with an examination date of September 30,
2017. Commissioner White to proctor. Motion carried 2-0. Fire Chief Rick Steines and Personnel
Director Randy Peck discussed the name change for this position from Firefighter to
Firefighter/Paramedic and the revision of the certified list expiration date from an 18 -month to a
12 -month timeframe.
3. Certify the list for the position of Police Officer. A written examination was given on March 11,
2017. Motion by White to certify the list of thirty-one (31) applicants based on the combined
scores of the written test, group interview and oral examination, and the individual oral
examination as recommended by Police Chief Mark Dalsing. Second by Neuhaus. Motion carried
2-0.
4. Schedule a promotional examination for the position of Landfill Foreman. Motion by Neuhaus to set
the application deadline for June 12, 2017 at 5 p.m. with an examination date of June 27, 2017.
Commissioner Neuhaus to proctor. Motion carried 2-0.
5. Adjournment. Motion by White to adjourn at 4:10 p.m. Second by Neuhaus. Motion carried 2-0.
