Whereas, the Northeast Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America, originally called the Dubuque
Council, was founded on January 17, 1917; and
Whereas, the Northeast Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been inspiring, conducting
service projects and teaching Scouts in Northeast Iowa for more than 100 years; and
Whereas, more than 4,200 current Boy Scout youth and adult leaders in Northeast Iowa and millions
nationwide will be celebrating this American tradition; and
Whereas, the Boy Scouts of America is committed to helping millions of youth succeed by providing
the support, friendship, and mentoring necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life; and
Whereas, throughout its distinguished history, Scouting has welcomed youth from every background
to join and has inspired them with courage, confidence, and character to make the world a
better place; and
Whereas, through the Northeast Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America youth develop the skills
and lessons that will serve them throughout their lives so that they may contribute to their
communities and to our great state of Iowa; and
Whereas, the Northeast Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America takes an active role in increasing
boys' awareness of the opportunities in camping, hiking, math, science, sports, technology,
community service and many other fields of interest that can expand their horizons; and
Whereas, a Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
brave, clean, and reverent.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF
SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2017 AS
"BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be
affixed this 21st day of August, 2017.
