PRODUCE Dear Certified Local Government Partner:
IOWA The National Service has recently announced that there are now 1,966 communities
that participate in the Certified Local Government Program for Historic
STATE HISTORICAL Preservation!
SOCIETY OF IOWA
This number is significant for a couple reasons—first it represents a strong
commitment to preservation in our country. Secondly, the National Historic
STATE HISTORICAL Preservation Act was passed in 1966 making this a particularly symbolic number!
MUSEUM OF IOWA
In honor of this milestone, the National Park Service has made certificates for each
STATE HISTORICAL of Iowa's 93 Certified Local Governments. This beautiful document is suitable for
LIBRARY&ARCHIVES framing and we hope that you will display it in your city hall or county courthouse
with pride.
STATE HISTORIC SITES Iowa has one of the strongest and largest Certified Local Government Programs in
the nation. Whether your community joined the program when it first began in
1985 or just this year, your historic preservation commission is part of an effective
STATE HISTORIC statewide preservation network.

P.S. I have also enclosed a Save the Date flier for FORUM 2018 which will take place
in Des Moines,July 18-22, 2018. This national historic preservation conference will
be a great opportunity for Iowa CLGs to show off our state and learn from other
CLGs from across the county. We encourage city councils and boards of supervisors
to budget funds to support your historic preservation commission's attendance.
