To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express City of Dubuque support for approval of historic tax credits for
the Metz Building redevelopment project. The project will restore a previously
underutilized building in Dubuque's historic Washington Neighborhood.
The project will create a healthcare hub that will include an expanded Community
Health Care Center, new pharmacy services, as well as the opportunity for expanded
vision care and mental health services. All are designed to serve at-risk populations in
the Dubuque community as well as meeting regional needs.
The project is an excellent example of sustainable use and preservation of cultural
assets; a demonstrated commitment to protecting cultural assets, and the integration of
these assets into contemporary community life; and creative and responsible
approaches to showcasing heritage assets.
The building provides a public service and improves the quality of life for residents of
the Washington Street Neighborhood, the City of Dubuque as well as the tri-state area
of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. The building is situated in the north end of Dubuque's
downtown and is one of Dubuque's older, predominantly residential neighborhoods. It
is within walking distance, or an easy bus ride, for many of the Crescent Community
Health Center's patients.
