A Master Plan for the Millwork District was adopted in 2009, which called for the redevelopment of over 1,000,000 square feet of building space as well as the surrounding streets and infrastructure. The Plan is to create a mixed-use neighborhood offering housing, retail, offices, galleries, entertainment, and employment. To date, nearly $100 million has been invested into the transformation of the Millwork District. The Foundry is adjacent to three other buildings at the intersection of 10th and Washington Streets in the Historic Millwork District, two of which have already been extensively redeveloped at over $30 million each. The Foundry is also adjacent to the City's $15.7 million Intermodal Transportation Center, which features local and regional transit services, hotel shuttles, park & ride options, public restrooms, and bike storage. The City has also realized a $7.7 million complete streets project in the Millwork District, starting with wayfinding signage, bike racks, benches, waste receptacles, plaza planters, and bus shelters. Step two included new streets with permeable pavers, sidewalks, energy-efficient historic street lighting, updates/reconstruction of all major underground infrastructure. The City supports continued investment in the Millwork District through the redevelopment of the Rouse and Dean Foundry Building, as the public and private sector continue to partner to bring the vision of the Millwork District Master Plan to fruition.
