Whereas, the Theisen's success story began in 1927 on Eighth Street in downtown Dubuque
when Leo and Kathryn Theisen founded Theisen's Battery & Electric; and through
economic ups and downs over the next 60 years, the Theisen family-owned
business grew from that humble beginning to become Theisen's Home•Farm•Auto
today with 23 stores across Iowa and Wisconsin in 2017 offering thousands of items
for home, farm, and auto needs; and has continued to invest in Dubuque with its
corporate headquarters and distribution center in the Dubuque Industrial Center
West and its flagship store on Dodge Street; and
Whereas, Theisen's Board Chairman Emeritus, Jim Theisen joined his parents in the family
business in 1956 and has led Theisen's through tremendous growth, instilling in
family members and associates alike the Theisen's philosophy that "people buy from
people, not from companies;" and
Whereas, under the leadership of the Theisen's family, Theisen's has been a philanthropic
pillar for the community, encouraging and supporting area non -profits through
leadership on multiple boards, financial and material contributions to numerous
organizations and projects, as well as grants like the "More For Your Community"
Grant Program to support the basic needs of families and children; and
Whereas, Theisen's is a fourth-generation family-owned company, a positive employer, and a
genuine community partner celebrating its 60t" anniversary this month.
NOW THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE 18T" DAY OF OCTOBER, 2017 AS
"THEISEN'S DAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City
of Dubuque to be affixed this 16th day of
October, 2017.
