SUBJECT: Renaming Menard Court to North Crescent Ridge
With the relocation of the Menard's store from Menard Court, Building Services
Manager Rich Russell is recommending that Menard Court be renamed North Crescent
Ridge, to avoid potential confusion to the businesses located there. The business
owners have requested this change.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

RE: Renaming Menard Court to North Crescent Ridge
The business owners, whose addresses include Menard Court as the street
name, have requested that the street be renamed. The relocation of the Menard's
store from this street will have the potential of creating confusion for customers of
I W I Motor Parts, the Dubuque Humane Society, the relocated Menard's store
and the future tenants of the former Menard store.
After the annexation of several hundred acres west of the city a few years ago, a
naming convention was developed where streets that were located on both sides
of Dodge Street would be named Sample Street on the south side of Dodge and
North Sample Street on the north side of Dodge.
The appropriate, new name of Menard Court would then be North Crescent
Ridge. Since Crescent Court is located off of Crescent Ridge, I chose not to add
"Court" to this street name.
Communications Manager Sandy Hutchcroff agrees with the recommendation.
ORDINANCE NO. 56-02
AN ORDINANCE RENAMING THE STREET CURRENTLY NAMED
MENARD COURT TO NORTH CRESCENT RIDGE.
Whereas, the City Council desires to reduce the potential confusion to the
motoring public caused by having a street named for a business no longer
located on said street; and
Whereas, the current City of Dubuque policy is to name streets that
intersect Dodge Street (U. S. Highway 20) as North "Sample Street Name" north
of Dodge Street and "Sample Street Name" south of Dodge Street; and
Whereas, the City Council desires to name the current Menard Court as
North Crescent Ridge.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA;
Section 1. That the street currently known as Menard Court be renamed
North Crescent Ridge; and
Section 2. That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and
directed to endorse the approval of the City of Dubuque, Iowa upon such street
name, and to file notice of the renaming of said street with the Recorder, Auditor
and City Assessor of Dubuque County, Iowa.
