Nelson, Donald, Mediacom CableJune 26, 2002 Honorable Mayor Council Members City Manager Mediacom!! What can be done? You are the ones that need to act and the sooner the better. I understand there, is a Cable TV Commission. Are they "helpless" or just "hopeless" At any rate, the body is certainly useless, my do they even exist? Part of the problem is the overly large number of channels. Two-thirds of which are of virtually no value to the customers. They take up bandwidth on the distribution system and help Mediacom to justify their ridiculously high rates. To some extent, the blame for the excessive number of channels can be laid at the feet of the cable commission. Initially they wanted "everything" and gave little regard to future, costs. I strongly suggest that you make a study of what is available at other cities and their corresponding rate schedules. Don't forget hi-speed Intemet access. Further, I'd suggest that you start with the City of Muscatine and their municipal cable system. You need to let the citizens of Dubuque know what goes on elsewhere. The education wouldn't hurt you a bit either. Thank you, Donald K. Nelson 3603 Crescent Ct. Dubuque, IA 52003 Phone: 563-582-4108
