ITEM TITLE: SUMMARY: SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: Israeli Music and Culture Week (November 6-10, 2017) ATTACHMENTS: Description Isaeli Music and Culture Week Proclamation Type Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF DugIi E Masterpiece on the ississippi CLAMA HON Whereas, Sofi and the Baladis of Israel visits Dubuque November 6111 through November 11th 2017 for the group's only Iowa engagement as part of an Arts Midwest World Fest nine -state tour, and Whereas, Arts Midwest connects small and mid-sized Midwestern communities to world cultures through week-long residencies with global performers, and Whereas, Sofi and the Baladis marks the first of four global music ensemble residencies over a two-year period with groups representing Japan, China, and Norway still to come, and Whereas, the Dubuque Arts Council and University of Dubuque Heritage Center team up in this collaborative venture to make this engagement possible along with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Iowa Arts Council, The Hearst Foundations, 3M, the Kaufman Family Fund for Israeli Cultural Exchange, the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest, Israel Lottery Council for Culture & Arts, Music Port, and the Howard B & Ruth F Brin Jewish Arts Endowment, a fund of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation's Foundation, and Whereas, Sofi and the Baladis of Israel will perform educational outreach throughout the week for over twenty-five hundred students in grades Pre -K to 8 at eight area schools including Audubon Elementary, Marshall Elementary, Epworth Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, Dyersville Elementary, Peosta Elementary, Aquin School in Cascade, and Southwestern School in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, and Whereas, Sofi and the Baladis of Israel will offer a pre -concert talk from 6 30 to 7 00 p m in Babka Theatre prior to their mainstage concert presentation in Heritage Center's John and Alice Butler Hall on Saturday evening, the 11th of November, and Whereas, a harmonious relationship between the state of Iowa and the United States of America and Israel is of critical importance to the citizenry of both countries NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 6-10, 2017 AS "ISRAELI MUSIC AND CULTURE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be affixed this 6th day of November, 2017 Roy D Buol, Mayor Attest Kevin S Firnstahl, CMC, City Clerk 2017: Submitted for signature only by Tom Robbins, Special Assistant to the President & Executive Director, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque, 2000 University Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001-5099, Phone: (563) 589-3325.
