VOTE
It was moved by Harjehausen, seconded by BIocklinger, to approve the
minutes of the June 11, 2002, meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
ELECT
OFFICERS;
VOTE:
New officers were elected. Chair is Chuck Duggan, Vice-Chair is Karen
Lyness and Secretary is Klm Daykin.
It was moved by Hariehausen, seconded by Blocklin,qer, to accept the new
positions for the 2002-2003 Park and Recreation Commission. The motion
passed unanimously.

PARENT/CHILD
GOLF DAY AND
TOURNAMENT;
VOTE:
Recreation Division Manager Prevenas shared information with the
commissioners that Sunday, July 21st, 2002, has been designated as Family
Golf Day. This date has been set-aside for any child, high school age and
younger, to golf free with parent and/or guardian. The parent/guardian only
pays the twilight rate of $8.50 for up to 18 holes with the first available tee time
beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, August 11th, 2002, starting at 1:00 p.m. has been the date set for the
tournament. Any age is open for the parent/guardian and child team. If team
child player is 13 years and under, they will play 9 holes. Rate will be $20.00
entry fee, which includes sandwich, drink and prizes, plus twilight rate of $8.50.
If team child player is 13 years and older, they will play 18 holes. Rate will be
$20.00 entry fee, which includes sandwich, drink and prizes, plus weekend rate
of $18.00.
It was moved by Daykin, seconded by Hoffmann, t_9o approve Sunday, July
21st, 2002, as Family Golf Day and the Au,qust 11th, 2002, tour~ame¢~, fees

SEASON PASS
TO EAGLE POINT
PARK FOR
BUSES AND
COMMERCIAL
VEHICLES; VOTE:
Manager Spence spoke with commissioners about selling season passes to
buses and commercial vehicles. Our department has received some interest.
At the present time, daily entrance fee is $5.00 per bus and/or commercial
vehicle. Cost would be $50.00 for a season pass.
It was moved by Lyness, seconded by Hariehausen, t_o approve the sell of
season passes to Eaqle Point Park for buses and commercial vehicles at
$50.00. The motion passed unanimously.

RENTAL FEES
FOR THE THREE
PAVILIONS AT
MILLER-
RIVERVIEW
PARK; VOTE:
Manager Spence spoke about the construction of three pavilions on the north
point of Miller-Riverview Park, overlooking the Mississippi River. A correction
was made on the capacity and cost of each of the pavilions. Each pavilion will
seat 24 people at a cost of $14.00 each. Each pavilion will be marked by name
- Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
It was moved by Daykin, seconded by Blocklin.~er, t_o approve the $14.00 rental
fee for each of the pavilions located at Miller-Riverview Park. The motion
passed unanimously.
PARK
DIVISION
REPORT:
Park Division Manager John Hail informed commissioners on the following:
· gate fees at Eagle Point Park are average; · season passes at Eagle Point
Park were off to a slow start due to weather; · pavilion rentals are a little
above average - weekends are busy; · Miller-Riverview Park is below
average this year due to the flooding; · Rewiring at Miller-Riverview Park is
completed with 20/30/50 amps; · Kluck Construction has completed sidewalk
work at Eagle Point Park; · grass crew has been busy with mowing.
RECREATION
DIVISION
REPORT:
Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas informed commissioners on the
following:
· 4,300 participants in summer 2002 programs; · swimming numbers at
Hempstead are Iow this year, but swimming numbers are up 25% this summer
at Flora and Sutton pools. During the month of June, we have had 35,000+
people attend Flora (highest since 1999) and 19,000+ people at Sutton (record
number); · adult softball league numbers have increased; · after-school track
program has increased in numbers; · June golf rounds are down 11% due to
the hot weather and rain; · 10 additional carts have been leased for Bunker
Hill Golf Course giving us a total of 50 carts; · Smoke Eaters will be installed
at the Bunker Hill Clubhouse.

BUSINESS:
ADJOURN;
VOTE:
· Commissioner Duggan shared some concerns he has received from people
about the conditions of the greens at Bunker Hill Golf Course. Spence
shared that the greens cannot be cut any lower because we'll loose them.
· Commissioner Hoffmann wanted to share with the Leisure Services
Department how impressed he is with pool staff controlling behavior in the
water playgrounds.
· Commissioner Daykin asked if the City had any interest in building an
indoor pool. Spence spoke with the commissioners about adding it to the
C.I.P. budget.
It was moved by Hoffmann, seconded by Daykin, that the meeting be
adjourned at 5:09 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
