Weinberg, George & Helen,LetterHonorable Mayor and City Council Members C/O City Clerk City of Dubuque 50 West 13t~ Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 Dear Honorable Mayor and City Council Members: We are George and Helen Weinberg and we reside at 3460 Sunset Park Circle. We are writing to make you aware of our opinion of an unacceptable and tax waste matter that has come to our attention because of the aiermess and intelligence of some of our neighbors. When they saw engineers on their property and questioned them as to why they were there, they were told of a scheduled street construction project that would extend Bonson Road. We have major concerns about this pmjeet: 1. That this project has made it as far as it has without any notification to the property owners involved, or possibly involved. 2. That this project is being done for the convenience of one property owner, the only one to profit in any way from the expensive, and unnecessary planning of this project. 3. That you are not considering any of the disadvantages to the neighbors or neighborhood that will be affected by this needless project. Many being retired or nearly retired property owners, and many others on fixed incomes. 4. That many of us have lived here for many years, and the reason for that is it's beauty and quiet neighborhood attributes that this project would completely destroy. 5. The loss of property value that would occur if this costly, needless project is to continue. 6. That our much needed tax dollars would be put to use for such a selfish, needless project for the convenience of one property owner that wishes to be "hooked up" to city water, and said owner was in negotiations with a contractor to make those arrangements, became uncomfortable with that arrangement, and backed out of it, therefore making this major, expensive project the tax payers burden. He can choose either to move (having known for all these years he had well water) he can buy bottled water or he can surely pay for bis water problem at his own expense, the only fair option. There are so many isSUes with this project, from the depreciation of our homes to the unacceptable consideration of one property owner, there is no need for this project. Can you even imagine what it would do to our neighborhood to have all of the trees we've waited all these years to mature and provide beauty, shade and value to our home replaced with a 10 foot high retaining wall, and the traffic flow, issues that don't even make sense, putting in sidewalks, for what? For the one said owner's convenience, again, not acceptable. Being converted one day to an arterial connection to connect Asbury Road with Kennedy Road should not be our responsibility, we lived here, and these homes were here long before this project came into existence, and that should have been considered when the plans were put into effect with the arterial you don't just go into an already established and settled "community" and tear it apart, making it far less than we've been paying for these years. We ask that you be aware of the displeasure and upheavil this project would bring to our neighborhood, this place we call "home", this town we call "home" when you realize you must stop this action now, and save anymore mx payer dollars in even considering tiffs matter for the convenience of one property owner. The owner in question can well afford to take care of his "water situation" on his own, as do all other property owners, and to consider the massive inconvenience, expense and devastation to continue any further action on this matter is ill-advised. We ask that you hear our plea, consider it to be your tax dollars (as well as those of us who would be accessed for this inappropriate project) that would also be wasted on a project with no matter, no sense, no fairness and surely be something that would be a disgrace! We trust you will understand that this project cannot continue and that we will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for listening to yet another angry, upset and frustrated property owner, we trust yon will consider this matter seriously and take appropriate action, and keep us informed of this project and what action will be taken.
