Roll CaII: Present: Anthony Allen, Chair Adrienne Breitfelder Miguel Jackson Kate Parks Jay Schiesl, Vice Chair Absent: Indigo Channing Fred Davis Staff: Kelly Larson Carol Spinoso The Chair voiced concerns about a commissioner's chronic absenteeism from Commission meetings/activities. Commissioner Jackson moved to send a letter to the City Council requesting removal of Commissioner Fred Davis due to absences and to appoint a successor to fill that vacancy. Commissioner Parks seconded. All in favor. The Chair will submit a letter to the City Clerk's office. Discuss Editorial Piece for TH During a meeting last month, it was suggested that the Commission consider submitting an editorial piece to the Telegraph Herald in relation to collaborating to create a safe, equitable and inclusive community. It was suggested that each Commissioner bring a written statement to the table October 9. Commissioners should submit to Carol by Wednesday, October 4th to be distributed with the October 9'h meeting documents. Finalize Goals The goals, initiatives, action items were reviewed: Goal #1: Establish sustainable and consistent equity in the DCSD in order to live up to the mission and vision statement of the District. The Goal #1 subcommittee members Schiesl and Stewart will present an update and recommendations at the Commission's October 9'h meeting. Goal #2: Collaborate with the Housing Commission and other partners in the City to make certain we accomplish the following for the benefit of the community. Initiative 1: Central Corridor Initiative 2: 17% to 22% Housing Choice Vouchers —Commissioner Parks moved to invite Alvin Nash to the November meeting for an 501 update. Commissioner Brieffelder seconded. All in favor. Initiative 3: Support Renters Association Goal #3: Collaborate in the elimination of barriers in employment to reduce the poverty rate in Dubuque. Initiative 1: Increase diversity in leadership positions within the City organization.
