Proclam Downtown Month
WHEREAS, downtowns provide a sense of community and place and reflect
how a community sees itself; and
WHEREAS, the central business district serves as the historic core of
Dubuque and contains buildings that highlight our heritage; and
WHEREAS, downtown employs area residents and is an indispensable and
unique shopping and service center; and
WHEREAS, a viable downtown is a critical factor in business retention and
recruitment efforts and represents a significant portion of our
local tax base; and
WHEREAS, downtown provides a place for local events and celebrations and
attracts visitors.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, DO HEREBY DESIGNATE THE
MONTH OF AUGUST, 2002 AS:
“DOWNTOWN MONTH IN DUBUQUE”
AND CALL UPON THE PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUNITY TO JOIN THEIR FELLOW
CITIZENS ACROSS IOWA IN RECOGNIZING AND PARTICIPATING IN THIS
SPECIAL OBSERVANCE.
