RE: New Highway 151 Corridor
Dear Mayor Duggan and Council Members,
I am writing on behalf of the Iowa's Living Roadways Corr/dor Enhancement Committee for
Highway 151 ( Jones County ) to request the support of the City of Dubuque in renaming the new
151 highway being constructed in Jones and Dubuque Counties to a back to the prairies theme in
designating the highway with its official namesake" The Old Military Trail" and also request
that the complete stretch of highway be registered with the National Highway Registry, thus
promoting tourism and future economic growth.
This project is one of many that the Enhancement Committee is undertaking along the highway in
Jones County. Effort is also expounded in having the corridor a "back to the prairies "theme by
planting original trees, grasses and forbs that were prevalent in years gone by and adding roadside
parks and information stations promoting the Jones/Dubuque Counties area.
I would ask that you body adopt a letter of support and send to Kathy Bearce, Director; Jones
County Tourism Association at 120 Main Street, Anamosa, Iowa 52205.
With the final extension of Highway 151 being completed over the next two years, how better to
recognize the accomplishment than reverting back in years and naming the section of highway
"The Old Military Road ".
I have also requested support from the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors for this project.
Thank you for your consideration and feel free to contact me with any concerns ( 563 852-3621 )
Rich Knepper
