RE: Preservation Priorities for City Council Goal Setting Session
Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
The Historic Preservation Commission discussed preservation priorities at their
July 18, 2002 meeting. The Historic Preservation Commission indicated that
they would like to see the City Council move Historic Preservation and
Revitalization from a high priority to a top priority because it meets two of the City
Council's goals- Revitalization of the Downtown and Balanced Growth and
development.
To achieve these Council goals, the Commission recommends that the City hire
a full-time Historic Preservation Planner, expand the demolition districts and
historic preservation districts, and continue funding for the Historic District Public
Improvement Program, Historic Preservation Revolving Loan Fund, Historic
Preservation Homeowner Grant Program, Downtown Rehab Loan Program,
Fagade Grant Program and future phases of the architectural/historic
survey/evaluations.
The Historic Preservation Commission respectfully requests that the City Council
consider these preservation priorities during their August goal-setting session.
Sincerely,
Christopher Wand, Chairperson
Historic Preservation Commission
