Report Library Board of Trustess 12 18 08Carnegie-Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting ~f December 18. 2008 Present: President; Diann Guns, Secretary, Kristen Smith; Paula Connors, David Hammer, Beverly Kolz, Elizabeth Leeper and Mike Willis • November marked 42 percent of the fiscal year lapsed. Expenditures were at 40 percent and revenue received was at nearly 54 percent. The increase in revenue is partly due to our estimate of lower revenues at this time which were made when we believed that construction was starting earlier than it did. • The Library continues to break records for use. KWWL featured C-SPL in their "Money Matters" segment on December 5 which presented the value of the library during times of economic hardship. • Circulations increased 7 percent and visits to the library increased 4 percent. The circulation of print material increased 6 percent for adults and 4 percent for children. • Librarian, Martha Sacchini retired December 19~`. Twenty-five applications have been received and an offer will be extended prior to the end of the year. • Moving of 40,000 books took place on December 17`i' with help from 73 volunteers (18 of which came from other City departments) and 47 staff members. The move required four semi-trailer loads to transport materials for long-term storage at McGraw-Hill. • McGraw-Hill has provided warehouse space, boxes and filler materials, pallets and shrink wrap material, as well as two hand pallet jacks, at no charge. Art Pape Transfer provided trucks, semi-trailers and drivers for the heavily discounted price of $100 per load. Peosta Warehousing Logistics has donated warehouse space for some art, antiques, and equipment which will be stored while the Library is under construction. • Construction began on Monday, December 15. • A discussion of the Martin J. Heade painting, currently on sale at a New York art gallery, took place since the contract with the art dealer is about to expire. The Board directed Susan Henricks to contact the dealer to request amonth-to-month agreement and all offers to purchase below the asking price of $350,000 to be brought to the Board for consideration.
